Welcome to the home of Sean Murphy Photography. Here's where you can learn a bit about the man behind the camera, why I do what I do and how I do it. If you have any questions, you can use the link at the bottom to contact me directly via email and I'll be happy to answer them.
Who I Am:
If you've made it this far, you probably already know this. I'm Sean Murphy, a photographer and editorial photojournalist based in Brooklyn, NY and available for travel regionally within the Northeast as well as all points south.
I've long had an interest in photography but didn't find the motivation to pick up a camera and learn the art of capturing images until a few years ago after watching a friend and fellow photojournalist excel quickly and establish a quality brand for himself. That friend was my inspiration for picking up my first DSLR camera body, and I was subsequently mentored by him.
As is the case with anyone who owns any type of professional gear - event when it was entry-level gear - friends would constantly ask me to take photos of them. After shooting for a few months and learning some of the basics, I became the photographer for a local weekly event here in NYC, which continued for a few months before moving on to other projects.
One of those projects was - and still is - photographing live music. I've photographed many national and international touring bands for editorial publication through numerous outlets, as well as working directly with local artists, and am the owner of Soundboard Magazine as well as Crowdshots Media, a for-hire photography and videography brand specializing in live and promotional work with bands of all sizes - from local and regional artists to national and international touring musicians.
What Makes Me Different:
Photography isn't just "point and click" or "pressing buttons" as many people, including myself, think when they first pick up a DSLR. Photography is an elaborate art form that takes years - decades - to truly master the many techniques which exist in the world of digital photography. Many photographers fail to achieve this and simply think that because they have purchased a DSLR, they are a "professional", charging clients for photos that fail to meet even basic fundamental standards in moments where there are no "do-overs".
Using only high-quality professional equipment, I take immense pride in my work no matter the job - from a simple modeling or acting headshot to once-in-a-lifetime events such as baptisms, sweet sixteens and engagements - my goal is always the same: to capture exceptional images and create a unique experience tailored to each client's specific needs, leaving that client with captivating images and memories that will last a lifetime.
